Mary Rich was born in 1940 in Cornwall and set up her first workshop in Falmouth in 1962, having studied painting and ceramics at Bournemouth College of Art, taught by David Ballantyne. In 1961 she spent a year working for David Leach at Bovey Tracey in Devon.
After many years of producing salt glaze ceramics her work changed to the porcelain decorated with gold and lustre, which is currently on show. She exhibits frequently and has acquired a reputation for her bowls, vases, lustre work and miniature teasets in particular. Being one of Britain’s most prominent and recognisable artists her work sells regularly in leading craft galleries, and auctions, in this country and abroad. She is a Fellow of the Craft Potters Association and a Member of the Devon Guild of Craftsmen, also a past Chairman of Cornwall Crafts Association.
