NICK HUBBARD Jewellery

After studying silversmithing at UCE, Birmingham, I set up my own business and began working from a small workshop in Birminghams Jewellery Quarter in 1978. I started out by making tiny moving and opening sculptured models for the jewellery trade. Eventually I continued this love of miniaturisation into my own pieces and produced my first collection of jewellery. I draw my inspiration from comic art, painting pop music, literature, Coronation Street and "mint" Fishermens Friends! I produce work, which is figurative, often becoming comic allegories bearing words or tongue in cheek messages.

My jewellery is handmade in oxidised silver with fine gold detail. I also produce one-off larger exhibition pieces such as "At Home With Mr Punch". A small logo of a "Brick + Bean" can be found on each piece of my work. This is a personal reference, a play on my wifes name and my own name (Nick + Jean)!

My work is now exhibited throughout the UK and exported to Japan and the USA. Buyers include Roddy Doyle, Nicholas Hytner and Sue Townsend. I have recently been commissioned to make a pair of cufflinks for David Dickinson.
